This was it. This was where she lived. He looked about himself uncertainly. Was he really going to do this? Yes.
The fiery red vine leaves that raked up the side of the building were beautiful and it reminded him of his little sister and her love for red flowers. He knew he was at the right house, even though there were wooden planks that covered the windows and he could see no one around.
Hesitantly, he knocked on the door. A female twenty years older than him, though the lines in her face made her look much older, opened the door.
He couldn’t find the words to introduce himself, but somehow she knew.
“You look exactly like your father,” she said softly, before opening the door farther to allow him to enter.

Great story! Seems a young man is interested in knowing his father’s friend. Very nice!

Hmm… I suppose I was being too subtle in my story: I was thinking that he was meeting his mother for the first time in years. He realises how similar she is to his sister and she realises how similar he is to his father. – I’ll make the hinting more obvious next time! 😉

It was a great story, nonetheless!

I just realised I didn’t make my hinting obvious enough… He was meeting his mother for the first time in years, who reminds him of his sister. – You’re not the first one to miss my hint, so I suppose I didn’t make myself clear enough in the story. I’ll be more obvious next time! 😉

I liked this. The mix of hesitation and determination. Great characterization.
