It’s just a scarecrow, she told herself sternly, breathing a sigh of relief. And yet it looked so real from the distance… She mustn’t let it get to her, she thought, she was starting to get paranoid. It was strange how a puppet of straw could give her such a fright, but she knew she would have to get used to it. This was her new home. Perhaps she could live here a while longer than she had at the last house, but she still saw him everywhere she went.
She turned back to the house slowly, her eyes darting back and forth. Just then a figure emerged from the shadows where she hadn’t looked too closely before.
“Looking for me?” he said, his lip curling into a smile. Her scream caught in her throat, she stared at him wild-eyed.
“No,” she whispered.
“Yes,” he said softly, stepping closer to her and bringing up the baseball bat in his hand.

Ooh, you’ve built up the suspense so well in this…and what an evil scarecrow. Not a nice ending at all for the unfortunate girl. Well written.

Oh nooo!
I think the scarecrow will save her from the horrible intruder, I suspect his being following her.
